Archive Clergy

The Grand Archivist was well aware that he could not be expected to find all learning on his own, and so he began to appoint his own force of aptly named Collectors.

zealots of the archive that are given various callings to aid the codex sovereign.

The most common of these was the standard Collector. This role was one that any could choose to take upon themself. Their duty was to, on occasion, travel the shadows of spirehelm, looking for anything that might not yet reside within the archive. This could be anything from a folklore tale, passed down through oral tradition, a cookbook from a far off tribe, or a spellbook, hidden in the sealed tomb of a late mage. It could often include copying the text from the source and many times these collectors, or others at the archive would annotate them, or leave a note at the end, with additional information that they learned while collecting.

Many collectors often start out as adventurers. Brave enough to traverse the shadows of the land in search of hidden knowledge. However many collectors who dedicate a large amount of time to the archive might be given a higher or more specific role in accordance to their talents or specialties.

Gifted Clergy

The Collector Scripturum, the Chronicler, and Artifex.

Each serves the Codex Sovereigns vision in a certain aspect.

The Collector Scripturum

are bestowed power to seek the unknown, often leading a group of collectors on their searches across the land, following their new sense to guide them to the unseen.

Chroniclers

too, meet with the Grand archivist and are given power of heightened knowledge, these beings are nearly unmatched when it comes to the information they can remember. Able to recall full records in their entirety from memory. This allows them to better organize the archive and guide the commonfolk and collectors alike to the information they seek with ease.

The Artifex

like the others are gifted, though for them it is a sense for the arcane. Able to discern the history of an object or work of art in their presence with nothing more than their heightened vision. In fact, they have a hall of the library where works of art, and all manner of magical items are brought forth. They too play an important role in the archive, drawing connections between writings, objects, and the metaphysical.

While many of those who desire to further the work of the archive are given these roles, the Codex Sovereign reserves a few roles for only the most faithful, those chosen by the king himself, or those who the archivist feels would be chosen by the greater gods.

Custodians of Light

The Artifex Altum, Arch Chronicler, and Collector Illuminatus.

These mantles are by calling only, from either the Codex Sovereign, or the Golden Throne. Those who accept this call are expected to leave their life behind, becoming fully engulfed by the library for the remainder of their lives.

Following suit, these beings vest in robes similar to that of the Grand Archivist. Covered in elegant embroidery, and heavy fabrics, sporting a similar veil within their hood, covering their sight. These veils are both symbolic, and functional.

Because they receive an additional blessing from the Archivist, they exist in an enchanted state at which they can navigate without their sight, therefore reserving it only for the use of looking upon records, learning, or objects pertinent to their call. Consecrating their eyes solely for the use of enlightenment, They will likely never see the eyes of another being until their final rest.
