How SpireHelm Works

Welcome to the Kingdom of SpireHelm!

Spirehelm is a collaborative retro-inspired dark fantasy project.

In a realm of magic, danger and mystery, heroism is the only hope against the growing darkness…

Here’s how YOU can contribute to the world-building and legends of the realm…

As of now we are building the foundational lore. All of this will be compiled into a SpireHelm Compendium, a guidebook with the most important lore for people to get started.

You can contribute to this through REALM EVENTS. We will pick topics to work on together like castles, knights, monsters, etc..

I will make a blueprint for the submission format and open it up to the community for a few weeks. During this time we can stream, discuss, and work on our submissions.

From there, you get to create the real rich details, either by yourself or in groups. At the end of the submission period, winners will be chosen and those works will become canonized and put into the compendium (with the possibility of some changes as things evolve).

This way the community still gets to be a part of the foundation that the rest of us will build off of, without getting carried away into really deep details and “wiki-type lore”

The events will likely each get their own youtube video, or at a minimum, will be posted about in the community discord. Otherwise the most up to date lore can be found in the Master Lore Doc. Which has the outline for the compendium, with details being added as we go.

Creations outside of Realm Events

If you’re interested in more free form writing in the form of legends, and stories that don’t have large scale implications on lore or big world events you can contribute as a Collector of the Grand Archive by simply writing, painting, or composing whatever you want.

This type of writing is assumed Legend or Myth by default. This doesn’t mean that it isn’t REAL, just that it is what the Spirefolk believe, it is real to them.

This type of content is just as important to SpireHelm as realm events. Just know that lore will change until the compendium is done. Ideally this type of writing is formatted from the perspective of a Collector of the Grand Archive. These zealots believe that by collecting stories, knowledge, and artifacts, that they will protect the realm from the growing darkness.

These collectors can hold different callings in the Archive, depending on their specialty:

  • Collector: A volunteer who quests for knowledge in any part of the realm (for us this is YOU, a writer or creator)
  • Collector Scripturum: An experienced collector with the ability to seek out the unknown. More of an adventurer that leads the quests for others, capable of overcoming great danger (for us this is someone who has had their work canonized or has shown exceptional craftsmanship)
  • Artifex: Those within the archive or about the realm who specialize in artifacts, magic items, and art. (for us these are artist)
  • Chronicler: Often spending their time within the archive, they obsess and scrutinize over the collected records, often guiding those seeking knowledge around the archive. (for us these are those who keep up with lore and can help others with questions)

Beyond these there are special callings that require lifelong dedication to the archive if accepted. (for us these are just mods or experts in the community)

These include:

  • Artifex Altum
  • Arch Chronicler
  • Collector Illuminatus
